I have been building things with wood most of my life, from tree houses to full sized houses and the occasional piece of furniture. I may say I'm largely self taught through trial and reading and experimentation, but that would be to ignore some influences and instruction that are a part of the picture: from my dad showing me how to cut a rabbit on a table saw (when I wasn't really old enough to be using the table saw) and a mechanical drafting class in 9th grade.

Much more recently, in the spring of 2008 I was a participant in a 12 week intensive class at The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, Maine. There the value of careful, precise, and mindful work was reinforced.  I had time to draw again, build models to experiment with design, and meld this all together with both traditional and advanced techniques.

And left inspired to do much more.  So here I am with a modest shop and a head full of ideas to be expressed in wood.  I can't fully explain my attraction to the Japanese aesthetic--but that's where I'm trending with my work.  Could it be the subtle, simple beauty, resonance with the natural word, respect for materials and craftsmanship, the interplay of order and asymmetry?  Yeah, thats it.
